The big break
Although she was a very successsful writer and broadcaster, she only recently became a major household name. In 2010, she was asked to host The Great British Bake Off. People loved the fact that she obviously knew what she was talking about, she didn’t shout, use foul language and she didn’t spend all her time giving sexy looks to the camera. More importantly, her food wasn’t impossibly complicated or expensive. She calmly helps people make nice food that was relatively straightforward to prepare at home. And she has been credited with reviving an interest in traditional BritiDonal Skehan may look like a sixth member of 'One Direction' (and he has dabbled in the music industry), but don’t let his boyish looks fool you. This is one TV chef/food photographer/food writer who's been around the block.

And she has been credited with reviving an interest in traditional British cakes and desserts.
And now…
Mary Berry is widely revered as a national treasure. She was made a CBE in 2012, has her own range of products and is one of the most popular names in British cookery. Her latest book is Mary Berry at Home by Mary Berry and Lucy Young, which is a revised version of Berry’s classic cookbook.
Donal Skehan may look like a sixth member of 'One Direction' (and he has dabbled in the music industry), but don’t let his boyish looks fool you. This is one TV chef/food photographer/food writer who's been around the block.
Born into a foodie family in Dublin, Ireland (his parents own a food production company), Donal’s been experimenting in the kitchen since the tender age of four. Before his culinary career kicked off, he had had some success in the Irish music industry, scoring two number one hits on the Irish Singers Chart with boy band ‘Streetwize’. But the kitchen soon called him back, and in 2007 he started a blog dedicated to his foodie adventures and recipes called Good Mood Food.
Donal Skehan’s big break...
After six months of blogging, Donal was approached by an editor and asked to turn his pet project into a fully-fledged cookbook. ‘Good Mood Food’ was released in October 2009 and, filled with easy recipes for the enthusiastic home cook, it led to Donal being hailed as Ireland’s answer to Jamie Oliver.
And now?
After starring in his own TV series to accompany his second book, ‘Kitchen Hero: Bringing Cooking Back Home!’, Donal dusted off his chef whites to join John Torode as a judge on 'Junior MasterChef' in 2012.
